Jane’s Cheat’s Barbecue Sauce
I’m letting you in on my speedy cheat’s Barbecue Sauce – it tastes rich and smoky and has a lovely glossy, smooth texture; all made from store cupboard ingredients in about five minutes.
Even if you’re not barbecuing, but cooking in a frying pan, under the grill or in the oven, this sauce is really tasty with sausages, fried chicken, or any roast meats and vegetables. Makes a change from plain tomato ketchup with chips, too.
- 75ml tomato ketchup
- 150ml olive oil (not extra virgin in this case)
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcester Sauce
- 1 tbsp (15ml) runny honey
- 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
- 2 tsps dark brown sugar
- Dash soy sauce
Put all of the ingredients into a small bowl and whisk hard until they come together. At first the oil will be separate from the rest of the mixture but as you keep mixing, it will gradually come together into a glossy, thick, rich sauce. Transfer to a bowl or small jug and serve immediately, stirring as necessary if it separates later.
