Visual Merchandiser

Department:  Buying and Merchandising

Job Purpose:

Constructs planograms ensuring SKU density, presentation and space allocation is aligned to the trading plan by store size. This results in the optimum range and retail presentation standards in all POUNDLAND stores.

Principle Accountabilities:

  1. Defines and agrees the merchandising rules and retail merchandising standards for nominated categories.
  2. Determines and agrees the ideal adjacencies and store layout principles for nominated categories.
  3. Assists with the completion of updating sales area layouts for nominated categories to facilitate 3 space changes per year in all stores
  4. Assists with completion of sales area layouts for nominated categories in new stores
  5. Specifies equipment profiles and maintains the equipment profile catalogue
  6. Produces both detailed and schematic planograms in tandem with space initiatives, range reviews and range changes
  7. Communicates new and discontinued lines.
  8. Manages Poundland product hierarchies .

  • Planograms are key to our like for like growth plans (£ value to be defined)
  • 247 Stores 4000 lines per store 12000 new lines per year.

Nature and Scope

The job holder has the freedom to develop the job to ensure delivery of the key accountabilities. The individual is required to look at new ways of working to continually improve the performance of the range.

He/she has to deal with large volumes of information to continually update and inform the range management process.

The jobholder works with the retail team & the buying team to ensure excellent availability and presentation in store.

The ideal candidate would be of graduate calibre. Ideally the jobholder has both retail and office based merchandising experience. Typically the job holder will be familiar with merchandising software and will have some experience of store planning too. A good communicator with a can do attitude is pre-requisite and personal qualities should include enthusiasm, assertiveness, persuasiveness, a logical and analytical mind. The jobholder must be a finisher/completer.

Decisions affecting budgets or significant change to other departments business processes should be discussed first with the Merchandiser.

The job holder has to ensure effective communication across all functions, producing reports, bulletins, planograms as required. The jobholder presents to suppliers and colleagues as required to achieve business goals.

The jobholder will from time to time have to work unsociable hours and be prepared to travel to achieve business goals.
