Instructions For Use
Sow Indoors
Surface sow seeds into 7.5cm pots or trays of damp, good-quality compost and lightly cover with compost or vermiculite. Plants can be grown on a kitchen windowsill for fresh herbs at your fingertips all year round or transplanted outdoors when they are large enough to handle. Basil prefers dryer soil, so water lightly and often.
Hardening Off
Make sure the risk of frost has passed before moving plants outside. To acclimatise, place the plants outdoors during the day and bring them indoors at night. Repeat this process for seven days, after which the plants can remain outdoors. This method is perfect for planting into patio containers.
Sow Outdoors
Once the risk of frost has passed, seeds can be sown directly where they will grow and be harvested. Direct sow seeds into drills 30cm apart or in pots of good-quality compost that has already been watered. Once established, thin plants to 30cm apart. Ideal for borders and patio containers. Harvest leaves regularly to promote new growth.
It is a classic variety often used in Mediterranean cuisine and the perfect partner for enhancing the flavour of tomatoes. Leaves can be picked as micro-leaves or entire large leaves. Pick regularly to encourage more fresh herbs. Although a flowering variety, herbs are less tasty and more coarse after they have flowered.
