Mother's Day Baking Ideas to Make Mum's Day Extra Special

A homemade breakfast is a thoughtful, affordable way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Not only does Mother’s Day baking let kids get creative and personalise a special breakfast, but it also keeps them busy while Mum enjoys a well-earned lie-in!

To make the morning extra special, we’ve rounded up our favourite Mother’s Day baking ideas—featuring easy recipes and affordable ingredients—so they can whip up a treat that shows how much Mum is loved this Mothering Sunday.

Why Homemade Bakes Make the Perfect Mother’s Day Gift

Homemade bakes are a heartfelt way to show love, and they’re simple, fun, and budget-friendly too! This makes them perfect for Mother’s Day and for giving the kids a fun activity while creating a sweet treat that makes Mum feel extra special.

Go the extra mile and package the bakes beautifully with gift bags, ribbons, and other Mother’s Day wrapping essentials. Remember, presentation is key. For instance, nestling cupcakes in our Mother’s Day ‘Mummy’s Treat’ Tin with pink tissue paper will elevate your Mother’s Day bakes – and she can keep the tin!

5 Fun & Easy Mother’s Day Baking Ideas

Our baking ideas for Mother’s Day can be relied upon to bring a smile to her face – whether you’re serving her a delicious breakfast in bed or dessert following her Mother’s Day lunch, our baking recipes for Mother’s Day have got you covered.

1) No-Bake Chocolate Truffles

If you’re looking for easy things to bake for Mother’s Day, look no further than our no-bake chocolate truffles. We love this Mother’s Day bake idea for a simple, mess-free sweet treat. All you’ll need is:

  • 170g condensed milk
  • 10g butter
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 226g chocolate, chopped into small pieces

Heat the condensed milk and butter in a pan until melted, then stir in the cocoa powder and salt until smooth. Chill the mixture for an hour before rolling it into small balls and chilling again. Melt your chocolate (in a pan or the microwave) and dip each truffle into the melted chocolate, placing it on a lined tray before returning the batch to the fridge to cool. If you’d like to up the ante, roll the truffles in desiccated coconut, crushed nuts, or colourful sprinkles so mum can pick her favourite flavour.

Package the truffles in a decorative gift box like our Mother’s Day Floral Pink Gift Box for a truly luxurious homemade Mother’s Day treat.

2) Mother’s Day Cupcakes

Cupcakes are a classic, foolproof baking idea for Mother’s Day. All you need for the cupcakes are:

  • 200g unsalted butter, softened
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 200g self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

For the icing, you’ll need:

  • 250g icing sugar
  • 125g unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Mix the cupcake ingredients into a smooth batter, and spoon equally into a lined 12-hole cupcake tin, baking at 180C for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool while you beat your icing ingredients until fluffy. Spread the icing evenly on the cupcakes and serve them to Mum on a platter, with a homemade card. Our Mother’s Day Cupcake Set includes cute cake toppers in floral and ‘Love You’ designs to show her just how much you care.

3) Love-Heart Jam Tarts

For a simple and nostalgic treat that’s easy for kids to make, we’d recommend our love heart jam tarts.

Using ready-made pastry, roll a sheet out and spread with strawberry jam. On a second sheet of pastry, use a heart-shaped cutter to create cute pastry shapes and place these over the jam-covered sheet. Cut the sheet into squares, leaving a jam border around each heart. Bake at 180C for 15 minutes, or until the pastry’s golden brown, and dust with icing sugar for an elegant finish. What better way to say ‘I love you’ than with this adorable Mother’s Day bake?

4) Creamy Caramel Fudge

Our simple caramel fudge recipe is perfect for gifting this Mother’s Day. It’s easy to make at home, requiring zero baking, few ingredients and a fast prep time. Just bear in mind that you’ll need to supervise kids cooking this recipe very closely. You’ll need:

  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 175g brown sugar
  • 115g unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of golden syrup
  • Pinch of salt
  • 200g white chocolate.

Heat everything but the white chocolate in a pan for about 5 minutes or until the mixture has thickened. Remove it from the heat and stir in the white chocolate, whisking everything until melted and fully combined. Transfer the fudge mixture to a lined container and chill in the fridge for at least 4 hours. Once completely set, remove it and chop it up into small pieces. Pair your delicious caramel fudge with a Mother’s Day card and tea and encourage mum to put her feet up this Mothering Sunday.

5) Lemon Drizzle Loaf Cake

To make a showstopper this Mother’s Day, try your hand at baking our lemon drizzle loaf cake. The perfect bake for mum and the whole family to enjoy, you’ll require:

  • 250g unsalted butter
  • 250g caster sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 250g self-raising flour
  • Zest of 3 unwaxed lemons
  • 100g icing sugar.

Beat everything but the icing sugar together until smooth, pour into a lined loaf tin, and bake for 45 minutes or until a knife comes out clean. Once baked, remove the cake safely using our Pepco Silicone Oven Mitts and poke holes into the sponge with a thin knife. Add the juice of the zested lemons or lemon juice to your icing sugar in a bowl and mix into a thin paste. Drizzle this mixture over the sponge and allow it to sink in. Let mum get cosy on the couch and deliver a slice of this timeless Mother’s Day bake.
