Sustainability
Ever since we opened our first shop in Burton-upon-Trent, we’ve been quietly getting on with minimising waste and being as efficient as possible, so that we can keep prices low for our customers. We kept this focus as we grew into the Amazing Value business loved by our customers today. Over this time, we’ve also learnt about the need to reduce our environmental impact and to be a good steward of the planet.
In 2020 we launched our first ever Sustainability Strategy, demonstrating leadership in our sector and showing our customers that amazing value and lower environmental impact can go hand in hand. Since then we’ve had our ups and downs but have maintained a focus on sustainability and reducing inefficiencies.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in a tough marketplace, including:
• Halving our carbon footprint versus 2019
• 100% renewable energy for our shops since mid-2022
• Installing low energy technology, such as LED lights
• Banning air freight and trialling gas-powered delivery lorries
• Continue to reduce waste by selling through products and segregated recycling.
But we’re not stopping there. Our focus now is on ensuring our packaging is minimised and easier to recycle, making sure we drive as few delivery miles as possible – using more eco friendly tech – and that our energy is from renewable sources, where possible. In fact, we still run a Sustainability Committee, chaired by our MD, that meets every month to drive progress
