Instructions For Use
Easy Sow Outdoors
Once the risk of frost has passed, seeds can be sown directly where they will flower, usually from March to May, for flowers throughout the summer. The easiest way to grow your cosmos is direct outdoor sowing. Prepare the area by removing weeds and raking to break up the soil. Scatter seeds over the area, cover with 1cm of soil, and water well. Seeding can be thinned to 30cm apart when large enough to handle.
Sow Indoors
Sowing seeds in trays or pots of good-quality compost and lightly covering them with a layer of fine soil can achieve earlier flowering. Continue to water as needed and place in a warm conservatory or greenhouse until seedlings are ready to transplant outdoors.
Hardening Off
Before moving plants outside, make sure the risk of frost has passed. To acclimatise, place the plants outdoors during the day and bring them indoors at night. Repeat this process for seven days, after which the plants can remain outdoors.
Large fern-like foliage is ideal for beds, borders, and large patio containers, filling bare spaces. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage more flowers and a more extended flowering period. Cosmos winn generally self-seed to produce more plants the following year.
